HOW TO APPLY FOR PHILIPPINES PASSPORT IN DFA?

For first-time applicants, visit the DFA website: dfa.gov.ph, ready your Philippine passport requirements, set a DFA appointment online with the nearest Regional Office to your current address. After that, fill out the online application form and then save it. Print your DFA appointment and bring the aforementioned data to the DFA Regional Office within your region.

What are the Philippine Passport Requirements? 

New Applicants of DFA passports MUST take note of these requirements.

• Personal appearance 
• Confirmed appointment 
• Duly accomplished application form – may be downloaded from DFA Website 
• PSA (Philippines Statistics Authority) Birth Certificate or Certified True Copy
• (CTC) of BC issued by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR)
• Valid picture IDs and supporting documents to prove identity.

How to Get a DFA Appointment?

There are actually different ways which I’ve learned where you can get a DFA appointment. Below is a list of them. PASSPORT DFA APPOINTMENTS ARE FREE!

Online Appointment – this is what we recommend for 2018! Access the new DFA online appointment setting system for a DFA passport renewal or new applications. PLEASE DO IT YOURSELF and DON’T PAY A TRAVEL AGENCY TO DO IT FOR YOU! IT’S 

FREE! Appointment in the Province. I suggest you prepare the necessary requirements before doing this. After that, you may access the DFA online appointment system and start filling out the necessary details which will be shown in the step-by-step guide in the following subject within this article. 

Walk-in appointment. The norm in setting a DFA appointment would mean having to wait long lines since it’s on a first come, first serve basis.  You must also pay a fee for the professional skill in setting up a schedule for your DFA passport appointment contributed by the person assigned to do that job in DFA offices. 

NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED for the list mentioned below can go to the Passport Courtesy Lane without any prior appointment:

• Senior citizens (60 years and over) plus one (1) travel companion
• Minors seven (7) years old and below (with their parents and minor siblings) 
• People with disabilities (PWDs) with PWD ID or visible disability plus one (1) travel companion Single parents (with Solo Parent ID) and their minor children
• Visibly pregnant women or with medical certificate
• OFW with sufficient proof of status such as iDOLE Card, valid employment contract, work visa

Important Reminders: 

• All Courtesy Lane applications and facilities including through accommodation or referrals will be treated as expedited applications and should pay the expedited fee of Php 1,200.00. 
• Please be reminded that all applications filed on a Saturday should be charged with expedited fees. 
• Senior citizens have the option to choose regular process priced at PHP 950.00
• Courtesy Lane facilities are available in all Consular Offices nationwide.

MY PASSPORT IS EXPIRED – What should I do?

Back then, I was worried because I thought that if my DFA passport expired, this would mean I would have to get a new one and go back to the basics to accomplish all of the requirements and get it issued again. However, as I read the official website of the DFA, I didn’t need to get a new one at all, I only needed to renew it.

Since I want to speed things up because I want to travel in three (3) months time, I opted for the DFA Online Appointment System, since it was faster, more convenient, and you could just do it at home without having to wait in long lines just to get it done. 

If you want to know how this new DFA online appointment system is done, then follow these step-by-step guide to start.

STEP: 1 Click the link and read the Terms and Conditions. Mark the checkbox once you’ve read everything and choose whether to apply for an individual appointment or group appointment with either your friends or family.

STEP: 2 Find the nearest DFA Regional office nearest to your current address – from Region, Country, and Site. Once you choose the site, it will locate the nearest DFA office where you can schedule your appointment.

STEP: 3 Choose your most convenient schedule to set a DFA appointment for the renewal of your Philippine passport. Set the month, day, and then check for the available time left. Compare your personal daily schedule. After that, mark the time that would suit your availability and press next.

STEP: 4 Be careful when inputting your personal info to avoid delays in your appointment and even your processing!

STEP: 5 Fill in your family information – your father’s name and your mother’s maiden name. Note, the suffixes for your father and mother’s name are to be placed along their first names.

STEP: 6 Choose your application type if it’s either new or renewal. Fill in your emergency contact person and their contact number. (Your mother, father, sibling, your spouse, or your legal guardian!) 

STEP: 7 Fill in your complete address and even your office address. Note that sections with asterisks are considered very important, so fill them out. Click next after.

STEP: 8 Mark the checkboxes after verifying everything. Confirm to get your appointment code and print your DFA appointment schedule. (Note: the data you input to the page won’t be disclosed to a third party)

STEP: 9 Check your email for any messages and click it to view your DFA appointment code.

STEP: 10 This is what the message looks like. Click the highlighted word “here” to confirm and open another page where you can find the next picture,

STEP: 11 Write down the DFA appointment code and your email address for further verification.

STEP: 12 After that, download your application form and settle your payment.

Once these are all done, download the file and print your DFA passport appointment. After, print your DFA appointment schedule, your application form, and bring your requirements to your local DFA regional office on the scheduled date of your appointment.

Important documents for new applicants 

Original IDs – Original school ID (for students), Voter’s ID, Senior Citizen’s ID and other government issued IDs, such as Driver’s License, BIR, PRC and SSS. Additionally, you may include original supporting documents that verify your citizenship, place and date of birth as well as full name.

Birth Certificate – Must be in SECPA (Security Paper) issued by the PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority) or CTC (Certified True Copy) of your Birth Certificate issued the Local Civil Registrar and duly authenticated by PSA. 

Supporting Philippine passport requirements

While not necessarily important, you might want to secure the following documents for your DFA passport application:

• Certificate of Tribal Affiliation from NCMF (National Commission of Muslim Filipinos), for Muslim applicants 
• Marriage certificate, if applicable
• Land title
• Income Tax Return (old copy)
• Baptismal Certificate with dry seal
• Transcript of Records with dry seal
• Government Service Record

Core Requirements for Passport Releasing 

• Original DFA issued receipt
• Original acceptable ID 

In case of a lost receipt, the applicant or authorized representative is required to present the Original notarized Affidavit of Lost Receipt executed by the applicant. 

Passports unclaimed after six (6) months will be cancelled per Department Order No. 37-03.

In case the applicant is unable to claim his/her passport, immediate family members* are allowed to claim the passport in behalf of the applicant

• Authorization letter (must mention affiliation with applicant),
• Original DFA issued receipt,
• Valid ID (original and photocopy) of applicant and representative *Immediate family members of legal age such as parents, brother, sister, spouse or children

In case a person other than an immediate family member will claim the applicant's passport

• Original notarized Special Power of Attorney (SPA) executed by the applicant, issued to the authorized representative 
• Valid ID (original and photocopy) of applicant and representative indicated in the Special Power of Attorney

For minor applicants

• If passport will be claimed by mother, claimant must present original DFA issued receipt and valid ID
• If passport will be claimed by father, claimant must present original DFA issued receipt, valid ID and PSA documents indicating proof of parental authority over the minor
